U.S. Pizza Team Gears Up for World Pizza Championship
OXFORD, MS (PRWEB) March 31, 2004
The U.S. Pizza Team is heading to the World Pizza Championship (WPC), March 29-31 with a couple of stops along the way.
The first stop was the Food Network on March 21, 2004. This much anticipated one-hour special follows the 2003 team from American trials to the WPC. Watch to see the team go for the gold. This special will air again on March 26th and 27th at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern, respectively.
The second stop is the Edeka Supermarket Expo in Munich, Germany. The acrobatic portion of the team will perform a team dough tossing routine to the theme song from the movie Â?The Good, The Bad, and The UglyÂ? for about 2,500 supermarket expo guests on March 26-27.
At the WPC, the ten-member team coached by five-time world pizza-tossing champion, Tony Gemignani, will compete in contests of dough stretching, fastest pizza making, dough tossing and pizza baking in Salsomaggiore, Italy, March 29-31.
Each member on the team earns a spot at one of two American trialsÂ?acrobatic and culinary, which are held at various locations across the country. Each winner gets an expense-paid trip. The 2004 U.S. Pizza Team members are: Brian Edler, owner of four DominoÂ?s franchises, based in Findlay, Ohio; Siler Chapman, owner of Ice Cream and Pizza Works in Charlotte, N.C.; Michael Shepherd, owner of Michael AngeloÂ?s Pizza in Kenton, Ohio; LeeAnna Shepherd, manager of Michael AngeloÂ?s Pizza in Kenton, Ohio; Dominic Tedesco, owner of The Sicilian in Bowling Green, Ky.; Brynne Humphreys, manager of Avalanche! Wayne, Ind. and Joe Carlucci, a pizza maker from Danbury, Conn.
The American team brought home three world titles last year. Brian Edler placed third in the Largest Dough Stretch. George Giove won second place in the Pizza Classicá, which is the most prestigious pizza competition in the world. Giove also won Best Pizza in North America.
